Royal baby is a boost to Britain

-

■ I agree with Eva Simpson when she says that Meghan’s pregnancy has given us something to smile about with all the depressing news about Brexit, the state of the country and so on (Mirror, Oct 17).

Surely, even the most cynical among us cannot help but feel a tiny bit joyful at this lovely news?

Seeing how naturally Harry and Meghan mingle with the public, especially children, on their Australian visit can leave us in no doubt that they will make exceptional parents. I’m sure Princess Diana would be very proud.

■ It’s amazing to hear that Harry and Meghan are expecting their first baby next spring. The newlyweds certainly haven’t wasted any time in starting a family. Much quicker than William and Kate, as I recall.

I send my congratulations to Harry and Meghan at this exciting time, as they get ready for parenthood.

A new royal baby will give us something to look forward to in 2019 and I bet Meghan will bloom.

■ Apart from congratulating the happy couple on the good news that they are expecting their first child, Meghan also should be congratulated for the expert and considerate way in which she has navigated around the potentially explosive disfunctional nature of her relatives.

With this good news, she and Harry are now well placed to bring the breath of

fresh air back into the Royal Family which has been lacking since the death of Princess Diana.

And I’m a republican! Noel Beresford, Chesterfield, Derbys

■ I am very pleased to see Harry and Meghan so happy, especially after Harry experienced the loss of his mother as a child.

However, I feel now is the time for them to heal the rift with Meghan’s father.

I don’t think the Palace behaved well from the start, as he was left to cope with all the attention alone and reacted badly. They should have sent someone out to help him.

My father was killed in the war and I’d have given anything to have had him in my life.

■ It is wonderful news that Harry and Meghan are expecting their first child and I am sure they will both make terrific parents. I also hope their child will reunite Meghan with her father, Thomas, who is said to be excited at the news.

■ We are happy for Harry and Meghan who are expecting their first child but please, please, please let’s not have a blow-by-blow account of her pregnancy. We have enough on our minds, what with Brexit, the NHS, the rail network and Universal Credit all in chaos, and a Government at war with itself. Roger Grant, Thurnscoe South Yorks

■ Eva Simpson’s assertion that “this is a thoroughly modern couple who embrace all aspects of each other’s background” is fantasy. I feel that Meghan’s family, with the exception of her mother, Doria Ragland, have been rejected by her and her new family. In my view, there appears to be a selective system in place that includes only the family who serve her purpose.
