Boomtown Rats singer Bob Geldof performs for fans at The Odeon in Birmingham. The band were at the height of their fame after topping the charts for four weeks that summer with single I Don’t Like Mondays. Geldof wrote the song after reading a telex report about the shooting spree of Brenda Ann Spencer, 16, who fired on children in a school playground in San Diego, California, claiming her motive was simply because “I don’t like Mondays. This livens up the day”.
