Heavy burden

-

WITH so many children overweight, school sport should not be an optional extra.

But secondary schools have had to cut the number of hours of exercise they offer.

Although the government has set aside more money for PE, cash-strapped heads are using this to plug other holes in their budget.

At the same time, schools have been forced to sell off playing fields to make ends meet.

By limiting sport we miss untapped potential and lose out in the fight against obesity.

Ministers have betrayed a whole generation.
