‘Memorial for Stephen’ bid
THERE are calls to put up a statue of Stephen Lawrence in Trafalgar Square.
The teenager was murdered in a racially motivated attack in 1993.
More than 55,000 people have signed a petition, by Islamophobia monitoring group Tell Mama, asking London Mayor Sadiq Khan to show “the UK stands strong against hatred”.
Director Iman Atta said: “It has been 25 years since Stephen’s death – but the violence towards people like him has not stopped.”
