ROY HOPES FOR ZAHA ‘MIRACLE’

- BY NEIL McLEMAN

WILFRIED ZAHA will be given until the last minute to make a “miracle recovery” and face Everton tomorrow.

The Ivory Coast winger returned from international duty with another thigh injury and has not trained this week.

Crystal Palace have not won without their talisman in the side since September 2016.

And manager Roy Hodgson (below, with the attacker) said Zaha would be given extra time to declare his fitness for the Goodison Park clash.

“It is good news that he is close enough to be assessed to see if he’s going to be fit enough to play,” said the former England coach.

“We are fortunate that Wilf recovers quicker than the average player. If someone plays an important position in your team and maybe has an important role to play in your team, you maybe give that person the largest amount of time you can give him.

“And the more important the player, the more inclined you are to hang on and hope for a miracle recovery.”

Max Meyer and Alexander Sorloth have been hit with a virus this week. And Hodgson also took aim at Norway striker Sorloth for his complaints about his lack of game time at Palace.

“He is not playing for Norway either at the moment so he has obviously got some work to do,” said the Eagles manager. “It might be a little bit too easy to blame us for that.”
