Champ Watson hits ton
JASON WATSON celebrated his 2018 apprentice title by reaching 100 winners for the season at Redcar yesterday.
After moving into three figures aboard Beverley Bullet at the Teesside course, the Brighton-born teenager said: “To have ridden 100 winners is unreal — it’s massive.”
Watson, who will receive the apprentice championship trophy at Ascot today, added: “At the start of the year, I’d only ridden two winners — it was more of a plan for next year.
“Now we’ve got to move on to the next step.”
Silvestre De Sousa will be crowned champion jockey for the third time before jetting off for a riding stint in Hong Kong.
John Gosden holds a lead of more than £1million at the top of the trainers’ table but warned: “Those Aidan O’Brien horses come like arrows at your back — in one afternoon the whole thing can turn round.”
