RAFA: I’M STAYING PUT.. AND TOON ARE STAYING UP

- BY SIMON BIRD

RAFA BENITEZ insists Newcastle will NOT sack him.

The Toon manager came out fighting to guarantee the Geordies will stay in the Premier League this season.

A run of 11 defeats in 14 games, and no wins yet this season, has put Benitez under

the cosh. But the former Liverpool boss said: “I don’t fear the sack because I don’t think that (will happen).”

Asked if he can keep Newcastle, level on points with rock-bottom Cardiff, in the top flight, Benitez replied: “Yes. I have confidence we will do it.

“We will do well, we will stay in the Premier League. I will not say what position.”

Benitez did not even bite when asked if he could blame the club for seeking a replacement, with Brendan Rodgers (below) a candidate. “I don’t blame anyone because I’m professional,” he said. “What I have to do is get the best from my players. “The most important thing is to stay in the Premier League. The city needs that.”
