Booze abuse rife in ‘play hard’ troops

-

THE “work hard, play hard” culture is being blamed for the excessive boozing in the military.

Ministry of Defence figures show 1,215 people in the armed forces saw military GPs about their alcohol abuse last year – 100 every month.

The figures reveal that 321 of the cases last year were linked to the Navy, 731 to the Army and 163 to those in the RAF.

And the MoD admitted the figures could be higher as reservists may well seek help from the NHS rather than military doctors.

The same study also found that 2,262 members of the three forces saw medics regarding a sexually transmitted disease.

The MoD said: “We educate personnel on the dangers of alcohol misuse to help them make informed decisions.” Fan admires Kate
