QI’m going to have my flu jab and I was wondering if there’s anything special I should do before I have it. Also, can you tell me what will happen after I’ve had it done?

I’m very glad you’re going to have your flu jab. Before you go you should inform your GP if you’ve ever had a reaction to a previous flu jab, you’re feeling unwell, have a raised temperature or are allergic to hens’ eggs.

Be in good time for your appointment and when you get there roll up the

Asleeve on the arm you don’t write with before you’re called in to the nurse. With most vaccinations there’s a temporary soreness where you had the jab. You may also have slight swelling and redness at the site of injection.

It’s possible that you may also notice achy muscles or joints, a slightly raised temperature, or a headache.

All these symptoms should go in a few days, but if not, get in touch with your doctor for advice.
