Palace yet again produced an encouraging display, but wasted a penalty chance and were punished when Everton struck twice in the final three minutes.

The Eagles boss (below) urged his men not to lose heart as they look to turn around their fortunes. “It was hard to take, we came across a goalkeeper in form, who made two outstanding saves and the penalty miss lifted the crowd and gave them fresh impetus going forward,” he explained.

“I still think it was harsh we conceded a goal. I’m not sure people would have begrudged us a result. We have to dust ourselves down. There’s no point feeling sorry for ourselves.

“Of course it affects confidence, it always does. Coming to Everton, on the back of two very good results, I thought for the best part of the game we defended well enough to stifle their efforts and looked dangerous going forward.

“If we continue to do that, I’m sure the goals will come. My mindset is we will continue to do what we’re doing, continue to work hard and make sure we’re as organised as we can be.” WEST HAM have been rocked by the news that £22million winger Andriy Yarmolenko is out for up to six months.

The Ukraine international winger, who went down clutching his ankle during the first half of Saturday’s defeat by Spurs, is understood to have ruptured an Achilles tendon. A club source said last night: “We just get no luck. It’s a terrible blow for the club.”

Yarmolenko, 28, will have an operation this week but Hammers, with just two Premier League wins this season, are resigned to losing him for a lengthy spell.

Manager Manuel Pellegrini is now set to turn to Michail Antonio and academy prospect Grady Diangana. But there is concern over the lack of depth in the squad, with midfielder Carlos Sanchez out for the season and Jack Wilshere suffering a setback in his return from ankle surgery.

A lifeline could be thrown to 19-year-old Reece Oxford, who has had a difficult time since bursting onto the scene with a superb display away to Arsenal three years ago.
