I DON’T FEAR AN ANFIELD SHAQ ATTACK

- BY DAVID ANDERSON

XHERDAN SHAQIRI is undaunted about facing a Serbian team for the first time since his controversial World Cup goal celebration.

Shaqiri, a Kosovan Albanian, was fined by FIFA for using his hands to signal the Albanian double-headed eagle at Serbia fans after scoring against them for Switzerland – a reference to the conflict between the two groups in the late 90s.

Although UEFA have banned Red Star Belgrade from selling tickets to their fans for the Liverpool game on Wednesday, hundreds are still expected on Merseyside for the Champions League clash.

Shaqiri insists he is not bothered that some Red Star fans may target him.

“No, there’s nothing,” he shrugged. “It’s just a normal game and I will treat it like a normal game. Maybe there will be some who will whistle at me but I treat every game the same. It’s just a football game.

“It’s an important game too and we want to win it. But sport is not politics.”

Shaqiri, who excelled in Liverpool’s 1-0 win over Huddersfield on Saturday, setting up the winner for Mo Salah (above), says he is more concerned that the Reds win to get their Euro campaign back on track.

“Yeah, it is a big game for us,” he said. “We don’t have a lot of time to recover. The next game is coming and we go again.”
