CORK FUMING OVER BLUES DODGING RED

- BY RICHARD TANNER

JACK CORK has claimed Vincent Kompany and Leroy Sane would have seen red if they had been Burnley players.

Kompany and Sane escaped with cautions from referee Jon Moss for reckless challenges on Aaron Lennon and Matt Lowton that Clarets manger Sean Dyche felt should have resulted in dismissals.

Midfielder Cork (below) said: “There were two tackles that could have been red cards which is frustrating because if that’s us, then maybe it goes the other way.

“On a different day it might have gone a different way.”

Cork felt the 5-0 scoreline was hard on the Clarets and that the game swung on City’s controversial second goal early in the second half. Burnley players stopped, thinking referee Dean was about to award a penalty, only for him to wave play on with his assistant failing to spot that the loose ball had crossed the byline before David Silva cut it back for his namesake Bernardo Silva to score. He added: “There were just a few things leading up to the second goal, though we shouldn’t have stopped for the penalty call.

“It looks like the ball has gone out of play but it’s a good finish.

“We limited them to a few opportunities and if that doesn’t happen for the second maybe we see it out at a goal or two.

“They quickly made it 3-0 and then got the two really good goals after that. That was the game done.

“It felt like we’d played better than recently. It can be tough with them having a lot of the ball but we played some good stuff at times and caused them trouble at 1-0. “We’re just gutted that it has turned out and we came away losing 5-0. I feel like we gave a good account of ourselves and deserved more from it.

“It’s very similar to last year and the FA Cup game here – when Burnley lost 4-1. “Once you concede it’s hard to stop their rhythm with the way they keep going. There are positives signs but there are things we need to work on.”
