Bryson Basham Marriott

REF: DERBY: SHEFF UTD: ATT: started his signing here. Marriott is an East Yorkshire lad, so he has no loyalty towards the Blades from the south of the county, and admitted enjoying the moment.

With a laugh, he said: “Yeah, basically my whole family support Sheffield United.

“My parents are from around there. my grandpa too and I have spent a lot of time up there.

“Although I was born in Beverley, my dad was always in Sheffield – and his side of the family.

“My cousins are from around the Sheffield area, they are big Blades fans too and always have been. To score against them was quite a pleasing moment, to be honest!”

Asked if they will still talk to him after this game, he replied: “I’m sure I’ll get a text from my dad.”

Discussing his fight for a starting role, Marriott said: “I’ve spent a lot of the season watching Nuge play.

“I’ve been happy to be patient but I know I’ve got to take my chance when I’m in the team, because he’s just as desperate to play as I was.”

Marriott made his mark within 19 seconds, providing the assist for Craig Bryson to strike the opener. United responded when John Fleck produced a stunning run, evading four defenders, before crossing for Chris Basham to tap in.

Marriott had the last laugh when he flicked in late on from Craig Forsyth’s cross. Fleck admitted there had been a frank post-match exchange in Blades’ dressing room.

The Scot said: “It was a big game for us and we’ve lost it. We’re not used to losing as a group.

“Whatever is said in the dressing room stays there and we’ll move on pretty quick.”
