Garage door crush death after stunt

TRAGEDY Heidi Chalkley A WOMAN got trapped in an automatic garage door after holding on to it as it opened, an inquest heard.

Heidi Chalkley, 40, was pulled into its rollers in front of a horrified friend.

Jurors heard she had pressed the button to open the door of an undergroun­d carpark at her home.

Susan Gilmore told police: “Heidi said, ‘Have you ever held on as it goes up?’

“Heidi grabbed the shutters. She started to panic as her hands got caught.”

The Health and Safety Executive said if presence detectors were configured differentl­y, it was “unlikely” the social worker would have suffered fatal injuries.

A postmortem found Heidi died of multiple injuries in August 2016. The inquest continues today in Huntington, Cambs.
