Cops rapped after student is paralysed

- BY ADAM ASPINALL

ARREST Julian Cole THREE police officers have been found guilty of gross misconduct over a student who was left paralysed after they arrested him outside a nightclub.

They were found to have made false statements about the incident in which Julian Cole, then 19, suffered a severe broken neck and brain damage.

The sports science student was “taken to the ground” by a bouncer, then by the officers, at Elements in Bedford in 2013.

A disciplinary panel found PC Hannah Ross, PC Nicholas Oates and PC Sanjeev Kalyant all lied about events and had not asked about his welfare.

Chairman John Bassett, adjourning to consider punishment, said: “Making false statements is so bad as to justify dismissal.”
