Watchdog: Border may not be ready

MEASURES to prepare the UK border for a no-deal Brexit may not be ready in time, a watchdog says.

The National Audit Office fears it will be a scramble to replace critical IT, boost Border Force staffing and build systems to track goods.

It warns crime gangs could exploit any weakness in the border.

The watchdog’s chief, Sir Amyas Morse, said last night: “What is clear is that businesses and individuals who are reliant on the border running smoothly will pay the price [of border preparations being incomplete].”
