Home Secretary brother’s death in hotel was suicide

- BY NADEEM BADSHAH

HOME Secretary Sajid Javid’s brother, who was found dead in a hotel shower, killed himself, a coroner has ruled.

Tariq Javid, 51, was five times the drink-drive limit, had high levels of codeine and was found with a kitchen knife and neck injuries.

The coroner was told Tariq left two letters that said “carry on and enjoy life” and that he would “not last long” as he was TRAGEDY Brother Sajid Javid suffering stomach problems. He had binged on wine and whisky after checking in to the luxury South Lodge Hotel in Horsham, West Sussex, the town where he lived, while his partner of 15 years, Sylvia, was out shopping. At the hearing in Crawley a postmortem gave the cause of death as drowning, alcohol and codeine toxicity and heart disease. No family were at the hearing but the coroner said they would be given a summary. Verdict: Suicide.
