Elephants on to sum thing
ELEPHANTS can count better than any other animal, a study has found.
They can tell larger numbers of pieces of fruit apart from smaller ones, said researchers.
Authai, a 14-year-old Asian elephant, picked out pictures on a touch screen at Ueno Zoo in Tokyo with a 67% success rate.
The fruit was of different sizes, so she was not using the image size to choose.
Dr Naoko Irie of Sokendai University, Hayama, said she showed skills “partially identical to human counting”.
