SAINSBURY’S is hoping to create some good vibrations – by putting sex toys on its shelves for the first time since it was founded in 1869.

The racy items will start appearing in the health aisles in 486 stores from next week.

Bosses said they made the move after the company’s research revealed a third of adults are unhappy with their sex lives.

The supermarket chain added it was “rising to the occasion with a new range of vibrators”. Sains- bury’s Paul Mills-Hicks said the products, priced between £8 and £15, were part of their plan to help customers “live well for less”.

There will be a choice of three sex toys. If they hit the spot, Sainsbury’s intends to extend the range in the New Year.

Bosses said the bedroom toys will be on the top shelf, away from children’s eye level.

Asda raised eyebrows in 2005 when it became the first supermarket chain to put adult sex toys on its shelves.
