Migrant base is destroyed

UP to 2,000 migrants were evicted from an illegal camp in Dunkirk yesterday before it was destroyed.

The refugees, mostly Iraqis and Afghanis, were trying to get to Britain.

Officials took action amid complaints of people smuggling at the camp at Grande-Synthe.

A source said: “It had become pretty squalid. The cold weather was making conditions particularly difficult for children there.”

The migrants will be dispersed within France.
