The Kray twins celebrate after being acquitted at London’s Old Bailey. The infamous gang leaders, born 85 years ago today, were accused of conspiring to demand money with menace from Baronet’s son Hew Cargill McCowan who ran a nightclub in Soho. The pair denied running a protection racket and were freed when the jury was unable to reach a verdict. Within months of the trial the Krays had taken over the club.
