YOU would have to be hiding under a very large rock to not know about the problems affecting the roll-out of universal credit.

The new benefit has been unravelled by cuts of £3billion per year to its funding by the Conservatives combined with their stubborn unwillingness to fix glaring flaws in its design.

The result risks needlessly pushing tens of thousands of households into poverty.

While the Government’s handling of UC has left it on life support, Liberal Democrats argue that with a pause followed by some major reforms, the system could be salvaged.

We call on the Government to pause the roll-out of UC and fix its damaging design flaws, while restoring the billions of pounds it cut. Making these changes would ensure less misery for the millions who end up on it.
