Cable: Benefit roll-out a slow-motion disaster
SIR Vince Cable today demands Theresa May halts the roll-out of universal credit.
The Lib Dem leader warns the hated system will plunge tens of thousands of families into poverty. Writing exclusively in the Mirror, Sir Vince accuses the Tories of having a “stubborn unwillingness to fix glaring flaws” in UC.
He said: “The result is a slow-motion disaster.”
His plea comes after we launched our Stop the Universal Credit Cruelty campaign. In a speech later to the Joseph Rowntree
Foundation, ex-Coalition Business Secretary Sir Vince will call on the PM to reverse the decision to £3billion a year from the UC budget, which has hit poor families hardest. But he says the system still has “inherent merits”.
