‘INSPIRED BY WAR TRIBUTES’
WAYNE BENNETT says England will take great inspiration from a visit to the war memorial in Ypres as they mark the centenary of the end of the First World War.
Oliver Gildart – the youngest member of Bennett’s squad - last week laid a wreath at the daily service that takes place in Belgium. The players, including skipper Sean O’Loughlin (right), paid their respects at the Menin Gate Memorial, which commemorates 54,000 soldiers who have no grave.
Bennett said: “It was well worth it. The players could reflect on how lucky they are and what their fellow countrymen gave for them.”
