Alcohol death student tried to ‘run away’ from initiation

A STUDENT was “trying to run away” at an initiation ceremony before he collapsed and died from alcohol poisoning, an inquest heard yesterday.

Ed Farmer, 20, was “shaking” with fear as he lined up with 20 freshers at the Newcastle University Agricultur­al Society ritual.

Parents Jeremy and Helen have seen CCTV of the 40-strong group on the night out. He is seen being DRINK TRAGEDY Ed Farmer carried into a Metro station on December 12, 2016. Witnesses said first years drank up to 27 vodka shots, some through a funnel from a pig’s head. Friend Edward Hinch, 21, described how Ed “panicked” after the bar crawl before he was taken to a house. Next morning Edward told friends Ed was “terrified and trying to run away”, unaware he was in hospital, the hearing at Newcastle civic centre has been told. The inquest continues.
