Common pills ‘raise risk of lung cancer’
WIDELY prescribed blood pressure pills could significantly raise the risk of lung cancer, a study suggests.
Research on almost one million Britons found those on ACE inhibitors were 14% more at risk.
Those who had used the drugs for five years or more had a 22% increased risk, while those taking them for 10 years or more had a 31% higher chance.
ACE inhibitors are given to under-55s with high blood pressure.
Professor Laurent Azoulay, of McGill University in Montreal, Canada, said: “Our findings need to be replicated in other settings, particularly among patients exposed for longer durations.”
The study was in the British Medical Journal.
