Cot designer admits baby death failings

A BED maker who sold a cot in which a baby choked to death has admitted health and safety breaches.

Oscar Abbey, seven months, got his head stuck while trying to crawl through a gap in the £655 cot sold by Playtime Beds.

Owner Craig Williams, 37, of Rotherham, pleaded guilty at Leeds crown court to failing to discharge the employer’s general duty.

Prosecutor John Elvidge, said: “The defendant was aware of the risks to safety presented by his designs but he chose to ignore those risks.”

Oscar died of asphyxia on November 3, 2016, at his home in York.

Williams faces an unlimited fine and up to two years in jail when he is sentenced tomorrow.
