Firm carries on fracking after quake

- BY STEPHEN WHITE

FRACKING firm Cuadrilla has begun drilling again after halting operations following another tremor.

The small quake on Tuesday was the sixth in six days at its site in Little Plumpton, Lancs.

Cuadrilla, which only resumed fracking on Monday last week, follows a “traffic light system” to measure tremors.

The latest was amber, meaning “proceed with caution”. The firm said: “This is extremely low seismicity, far below what could be felt at the surface.”

In 2011 fracking was halted for seven years after experts said two tremors in Lancashire were caused by shale gas test drilling.

An official panel said fracking tremors would be too small to do structural damage above ground.
