Tot died after 12hrs in buggy

A BABY boy died after being strapped in a pushchair covered in blankets for 12 hours while his mother smoked cannabis.

The three-month-old was left home alone at 1am while she went to a garage.

His mum did not check on him until later that day. He was taken to hospital in cardiac arrest and died soon afterwards.

The woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, admitted taking cannabis and cocaine during her pregnancy, a serious case review said. But she was not assigned a specialist midwife because she said she had stopped taking drugs.

The mum, of Rochdale, Gtr Manchester, who has children aged four and seven, also ignored advice on safe sleeping “with deadly consequences”, the review added.

Rochdale Safeguarding Board said there would be “changes to procedures”.
