It’s a car crash
The number of cars made in the UK crashed nearly 17% last month, figures out today reveal.
Factories including Jaguar Land Rover’s in the West Midlands and Merseyside, and Nissan’s in Sunderland, built 127,051 vehicles in September – 25,610 fewer than in the same month in 2017.
This year the industry has faced global trade tension, uncertainty over diesel and Brexit, and testing backlogs due to emissions rules.
Industry pressure group the SMMT called on Chancellor Philip Hammond to give carmakers a boost in next week’s Budget.
