Antibiotic link to gut illness
TAKING antibiotics has been linked to bowel diseases in a study.
The drugs destroy beneficial gut bacteria, harming our immune response to salmonella and E.coli, said scientists who tested mice.
But Dr Elizabeth Mann said patients should not stop taking antibiotics as “most people need a genetic predisposition” to get the diseases, .
Her team at Manchester University also said taking extra fibre could fight the effect of the drugs.
