Call to deface uni war mural sparks anger

Emily Dawes said the mural should be taken down because it features only white men.
It was painted at Southampton University in 1916 to commemorate First World War soldiers unable to complete their studies.
Dawes, president of the university’s Student Union, tweeted: “We’re taking down the mural of white men, even if I have to paint over it myself.”
More than 200 people have called for Dawes to resign and she later issued a public apology.
