Plea to soaps over boozing

TEENAGE binge drinking is being fuelled by TV soaps featuring booze, experts have claimed.

And they are calling for shows such as EastEnders and Corrie to be aired after the 9pm watershed.

Almost half of the ads in the breaks are for beer, the Centre for Tobacco and Alcohol Studies found.

Researcher Dr Alexander Barker said: “There is evidence that exposure to alcohol imagery in the media increases use in adolescent­s.”
