■ Between 2015 and 2030, the number of older people worldwide is set to rise by 56%.

UK social care is in such a state that many providers are not fit for purpose.

It is urgent that those responsibl­e, politician­s both in local councils and national government, explain their plans to cope with this situation.

To add to the debate about possible plans to end the free TV licence for the over-75s, this was a cost passed to the BBC by the Tory Government.

Also, if the BBC started to take adverts this would leave them open to the influence of advertiser­s. And on the subject of adverts, why do Sky, Netflix and Virgin, which do take adverts, have a subscripti­on fee, which is really a licence fee in all but name? J Randall Morley, West Yorks
