ASH WANTS A NEW DEAL

- BY JAMES NURSEY

ASHLEY YOUNG wants a new two-year deal at Manchester United that would extend his stay at the club to a decade. England World Cup star Young, 33, has been a regular in Jose Mourinho’s starting XI this term and has even worn the captain’s armband. But he is out of contract next summer after United triggered only a one-year extension in March.

Young, who signed from Aston Villa in 2011, has become an accomplished wing-back under Mourinho after starting his career as a forward. He has won 39 England caps but has not been selected since the World Cup as Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate looks to younger players. Young has been given the United armband following injury to Antonio Valencia and Mourinho’s issues with Paul Pogba. Mourinho has said David de Gea and Chris Smalling are other players who may be captains this term.
