ROD Stewart wants to heal his rift with Jeff Beck and work with him again, almost 50 years after they split up.

Rod sang in the legendary guitarist’s Jeff Beck Group but left in 1969 with Ronnie Wood to form The Faces.

The 73-year-old and Hi Ho Silver Lining singer Jeff, 74, are barely on speaking terms after rifts and failed reconciliations. But Rod said: “My voice and his guitar is a match made in heaven, it would be a lovely thing. It’d be a complete left-hand turn.

“We did try it once but couldn’t see eye to eye – I mean, a serious clash of egos – but you know, never say never. I know it’s a cliche, but really, I’m up for it if he’s up for it.”

And he said that if they could make a blues-rock album together it would be “absolutely explosive”.

However Rod, whose 30th studio album Blood Red Roses was released last month, puts the blame on Jeff for a failed reconciliation 10 years ago.

He said: “I didn’t get one original riff, Jeff. Just give me a riff, and I’ll write lyrics around it.”

Talking to Billboard magazine he said he had never been happier. He added: “I have the most gorgeous wife, I have eight wonderful children, and two little ones. It’s just fabulous.”
