THE figure of a First World War soldier was beheaded in an act dubbed a “moronic act of vandalism” by veterans.

The 5ft aluminium Silent Soldier is one of 30 tributes erected around Rosson-Wye, Herefordshire, to mark 100 years since the end of The Great War.

Vandals have also damaged 14 giant red poppies in the market town.

Graham Aplin, of the Royal British Legion, said: “I can’t understand why they’d be so disrespectful.” Statue and cut off head
