Takeaway bosses guilty over death of allergy sufferer Megan, 15
TWO takeaway bosses have been found guilty of the manslaughter of a 15-year-old girl who suffered an allergic reaction to their food.
Megan Lee died after eating a meal containing peanut protein.
Yesterday, a jury found owner Mohammed Abdul Kuddus, 40, and Harun Rashid, 38, guilty of manslaughter by gross negligence.
Members of Megan’s family were in tears in the gallery as the verdict was delivered at Manchester crown court.
Outside, Megan’s father Adam warned takeaways: “Do not play Russian roulette with precious lives.
“The loss of our beautiful daughter has completely devastated us.”
The court heard a friend ordered the meal in December 2016 from Royal Spice in Oswaldtwistle, Lancs, through the Just Eat website, writing “prawns, nuts” in the notes section. But the meal, which included an onion bhaji and a kebab, had “widespread presence” of peanut protein.
Megan died two days later after suffering irreversible brain damage.
Peter Wright QC, prosecuting, told the court this was a “disaster waiting to happen”. Rashid, of Haslingden, and Kuddus, of Blackburn, were bailed to be sentenced on November 7. BAILED Kuddus and Rashid
