FROM BACK PAGE has not agreed new terms despite months of talks.

Mourinho admitted: “I’m not confident. Everyone knows how important he is for Manchester United and, if the club want to be better than it is and not worse, obviously it would be very important to keep David.”

De Gea, the club’s Player of the Year in four of the last five seasons, was understood to be happy with their offer of new terms in the summer.

But he has not signed because he is believed to be concerned by their form. He wants to win Premier Leagues and Champions Leagues and United look capable of winning neither under Mourinho.

They may be forced to cash in on the former Atletico Madrid star next summer if he refuses to sign.
