TAKE IT TO THE MAX

- BY IAN WINROW

LUCAS TORREIRA says he will “fight” to be a success and prove himself at Arsenal and in English football – just like his dad told him to do.

The midfielder has made an instant impact at the Emirates since his £26million summer move from Sampdoria.

And he said: “It’s a great challenge and a new challenge for me. I’m the kind of person who likes to fight for these things, to always be fighting my way up, like my dad always tells me.

‘I am so happy. I’m getting to know London and taking on the challenge of learning English so I can communicate with my teammates.

“That’s something that’s not only important for football, but also for life.”

It is that die-hard, determined attitude from the tireless anchorman, as much as his quality, that has helped him ROY HODGSON says Max Meyer has been hiding his frustration well – and is now ready to turn Crystal Palace’s faltering campaign around.

Meyer, 23, arrived at Selhurst Park with a big reputation following his summer switch from Schalke.

But the German playmaker (left) has been forced to be patient, with Hodgson so far opting to use him from the bench.

Palace, though, have struggled in front of goal with just five goals in nine league games, all away from home. And with Arsenal next up at Selhurst Park tomorrow, Hodgson believes Meyer is now ready to make an impact on the Premier League.

The Palace boss said: “I guess he has been getting frustrated but he disguises it well. He didn’t come here to be a bit-part player, he came here to be one of the 11.

“But everyone knows that Max Meyer is breathing down their neck.”
