Miracle 1.4lb baby celebrates first birthday
A BABY who weighed just 1.4lbs after being born three months prematurely has celebrated her first birthday.
Lacey Sherriff ’s heart stopped for more than 20 minutes as she underwent emergency surgery at five days old.
The tot was suffering from a severe condition that affects preterm babies called necrotising enterocolitis, which causes a portion of the bowel to die.
During the surgery, Lacey’s heart stopped for 12 minutes due to excessive bleeding before doctors managed to stabilise her.
It then took a further 10
Y Vminutes for the team at St George’s Hospital, South West London, to resuscitate her.
Lacey is now back at home in Ashford, Kent, with parents Philip and Louise, and five-year-old brother Alfie.

Dr Thomas Breen, who led the theatre and resuscitation team, said: “She truly is a remarkable little girl and it’s so great to see her doing so well now.”
