36 YEARS AGO (1982) Lindy Chamberlain was found guilty of killing her nine-week-old daughter. Four years later her claim a dingo took her baby near Uluru in Australia was proven true. 15 YEARS AGO (2003) Tory leader Iain Duncan Smith resigned after he narrowly lost a vote of confidence. It triggered the party’s fourth leadership contest in eight years. He was succeeded by Michael Howard.
