Inquiry into 13 lost ‘cold’ murder files
RIGHTS Baroness Newlove POLICE are being probed for losing 13 unsolved murder files and failing to keep victims’ families informed.
The Information Commissioner’s Office is investigating how the cases between 1982 and 1992 from London were missing in a 2012 review.
Evidence is still missing in 11 cases. Victims’ commissioner Baroness Helen Newlove praised a Mirror investigation highlighting the lost files.
She added: “When this occurs, police have a duty to inform victims’ families.”
Scotland Yard said: “Challenges are presented by the decades’ worth of paper material generated.”
The Mirror has been campaigning for a bill of rights for victims of crime.
