Inquiry into 13 lost ‘cold’ murder files

RIGHTS Baroness Newlove POLICE are being probed for losing 13 unsolved murder files and failing to keep victims’ families informed.

The Informatio­n Commission­er’s Office is investigat­ing how the cases between 1982 and 1992 from London were missing in a 2012 review.

Evidence is still missing in 11 cases. Victims’ commission­er Baroness Helen Newlove praised a Mirror investigat­ion highlighti­ng the lost files.

She added: “When this occurs, police have a duty to inform victims’ families.”

Scotland Yard said: “Challenges are presented by the decades’ worth of paper material generated.”

The Mirror has been campaignin­g for a bill of rights for victims of crime.
