AUSTIN EYE FOR GOALS

-

CHARLIE AUSTIN only had a black eye to show for Southampton’s barren run extending to 475 minutes without a goal.

The Saints striker is still without a Premier League goal this season and his shiner from an aerial collision with Newcastle keeper Martin Dubravka (below, left) was not a souvenir he would have chosen.

Southampton should have chalked up their first home win since April and Austin said afterwards “They need to sort out a rule whether you can jump with keepers or not – to be honest with you, it’s becoming a bit of a joke.

“You can go through the whole world of football now and you can’t challenge keepers. As a centre forward it’s very frustrating.

“You sense the atmosphere in the stadium. You look around and you see everyone is on edge.

“We get so close, you create chance after chance... we just can’t put the ball in the net. But it’s all going to kick on – there’s a truly strong side in there.

“I know the fans are getting frustrated and I totally understand that, but when we get one it’s going to snowball.”
