TIM BACK TO SHINE AFTER A KRUL TIME

- LEEDS UNITED NOTTINGHAM FOREST BY SIMON BIRD 1 1 BY IAN BAKER

MOTM MATEUSZ KLICH (LEEDS) TIM KRUL admits Norwich have finally helped him fall back in love with football again.

The Dutch keeper, 30, (above) saw his time at Newcastle end on the back of 13 months out with a cruciate knee injury.

He has since had loan spells at Ajax and AZ before spending last season on Brighton’s bench.

But he is playing regular football again and could not be happier to be in the limelight.

Krul said: “It’s hard mentally to get back from a big, dark place.

“I’m 30 and still young in goalkeeping terms. I just wanted to play football again. I don’t want to sit on the bench for a Premier League club. I want to show people I’m back.

“I had options to go elsewhere. It’s nice to be wanted. They kept their promise and it is great to be a part of something like this.

“It’s so exciting to be back and I feel back to my Newcastle and Holland best.”

The Canaries are matching more fancied sides as they moved up to fourth with this win thanks to an Emi Buendia volley.

But, although Jordan Rhodes also missed a penalty, it took a fine double save from Krul to deny Said Benrahma and Lewis Macleod before Neal Maupay hit the bar on the rebound.

The Bees have now lost all three games under Thomas Frank but keeper Dan Bentley said: “Three games doesn’t make him a bad manager or us a bad squad.

“It just makes it a time in which we have to stick together and make sure that we come out of the other side. I’m sure this will end up being forgotten about.”
