May defiant over U-turn on austerity

-

THERESA May has refused to apologise for her “broken promise” on ending the era of austerity.

At the Tory conference she said it was “over” but she has since said “austerity is ending”.

Jeremy Corbyn asked whether “she would apologise for her broken promise that she was going to end austerity, because she has failed to do that”.

At Prime Minister’s Questions Mrs May instead replied that growth and wages were “up”.

She added:“Debt is falling, austerity is ending – under the Tories the hard work… is paying off.”
