RAF aces see off 2 Russian bombers
RAF Typhoons scrambled to intercept a pair of Russian bombers yesterday.
The two fighters launched from RAF Lossiemouth in Scotland within minutes of a radar warning over the advancing Tupolev Tu-160s. It is believed the Kremlin bombers were being used as spy planes, gathering intelligence on a major Nato exercise in Norway. It is thought they had advanced to within 100 miles of the Shetland Islands before being seen off.
An RAF source said: “They were scared off quickly so the RAF pilots may not have been so close to them as previously.”
