HEATWAVES are predicted to get worse over the next three decades.

An internatio­nal team found warming in the Arctic caused by burning fossil fuels has put the brakes on the jet stream.

This core of high winds that determines weather is expected to keep extreme conditions for far longer.

The actress was among stars who lent their support when Gemma Nuttall turned down treatment while pregnant with Penelope.

Kate and Titanic co-star Leonardo DiCaprio helped raise £300,000 for Gemma to have therapy in Germany.

The 29-year-old had defied medics but lost her five-year fight with ovarian cancer on October 14. She was honoured at Accrington Cemetery, Lancs, yesterday.

Kate, 43, was believed to be among those paying tribute during the service.

After her death, she said: “Gemma was such a beacon of strength. It was a privilege to be let into her life for a brief time and to try to help.”
