Pick science star of note

THE new £50 note will feature an eminent scientist, with Stephen Hawking and Dorothy Hodgkin among the first to be nominated.

Prof Hawking, who died in March, was proposed by Professor Brian Cox while Professor Hodgkin is the only British woman to win a Nobel prize for science.

Nominations, who must be deceased, can be made at the Bank of England until December 14 – and boss Mark Carney said to “think science”.

The only living person on notes is the Queen.
