‘U2’ NHS raid ‘despicable’

-

CONMEN who used the real names of U2 rockers Bono and The Edge to fleece the NHS of over £700,000 have been jailed.

A sham firm set up by NHS managers Mark Evill, 47, and Robert Howells, 65, invoiced for building work as Paul Hewson (Bono) and David Evans (Edge).

At Merthyr Tydfil crown court, Evill got seven years and Howells four. Accomplice Michael Cope, 43, got three years. Judge Peter Heywood slammed the scam as “despicable”.
